PAINT by Motavis

do i
bring the can of paint
do i
bring the fence
it's time to build you a wall
and keep, keep it all, inside
round the tree
nature takes its course
ride the wheels
don't let them spin
dream away
sleep away
make peace with you
do i
think of the ways
do i
feel the pain
can i mend
can i spend
just some time
as i watch you heal
in the back of my mind
only through time

From The Past Learning from the past. Yeah, shit seems to fly when you have all the wrong equipment. I think Levi (of Thrill Kill Kult & Black From The Dead) and I almost had a heart attack everytime the computer wanted to spit out a beep in the middle of our work. I learned a lot from Levi as we spent many a days on single areas to make sure it was perfect. Always having time for a quick game of Madden 2003 or SyphonFilter.

Producing... Ok, so it's a lot tougher then I ever thought. It's one thing to tell someone to do something they like, it's another thing to tell them that sucked, do it again but try it like this. Tact . Yeah, that's the word you need to use a lot in this bissness. I do a lot of trial and error to get the sounds I already have in my head. I think I learned a lot of that with Photoshop(image editor). I would sit for hours and hours just going over with filters that I made and with layers of images on top of others. I think music mimics that same feel. You do what the hell you want till you see the image you want. Once you have a pattern down it makes it easy to bring back that same process. Only problem is that you want another process instead and you may never come back to that same setup. I like to let people know what they are doing right and if I find something wrong, I like to tell them a solution to the problem. Nothing burns an artist to hear that you don't like it and you have no quick solution to the problem. I think thats where my trial and error process has helped out a lot. Back in the day, as some say, in the band Version-X , I learn that single tracking a jam session while fun and a very easy task, I think that taking out the things that was to loud or out there just wouldn't do. Prays-It-Be for the almighty multi-track editor. I supose that's where the engineer thing comes in to play.

Engineering has been something new to me. I feel like I learn something new everytime I do any new work. Editing so that a click or a small tone isn't there or making the song brighter without distroying the drums. Mixing is like one of those things you do last and I never use to know that if you do your mixing in mono your work comes out a lot better. Always dealing with the smallest of things. Singers seems to think they suck for some odd reason. I think just letting them know you know they know what the hell they are doing you learn a lot from them. I learned a lot of my mastering skills from Blaine Jones (formally Comunication Union and Big Fish Audio - Titanium Rythems with his Friend first and for most Jason Jones of no relation.)

Jason Rudolf - DJing (From Version-X and Fusion Room)
